to sandy hook elementary school, carrying a virtual arsenal. investigators say the gunman had hundreds of rounds of ammo with him, perhaps enough to kill every student at sandy hook elementary. the connecticut governor says when the gunman heard police arriving, he used one of those bullets on himself. massacre ending as it began, with violence and blood. we have team fox coverage with rick leventhal on today's first funerals for the victims and updates on the survivors. first, the fox report's chief correspondent jonathan hunt live at the fire house in newtown, connecticut. where does the investigation stand tonight? >> it's moving slowly, john, and it's moving methodically. there are, of course, two main crime scenes. the school itself where those 20 children, ages six and seven, and the six female staff members were all gunned down, so horrifically on friday. that crime scene is likely to remain one, according to the cops, for months to come. it will not be reopened as a school until all of the investigative work is done there, if it reopens as a school at all. the second crime scen

big money headlines. sandy's impact. buyers are back. and a big bake sale. joining me live now forbes staff writer morgan brennan. >> good morning. >> first off let's talk about hurricane sandy which took quite a toll on consumer spending. the commerce department says that fell in october, after rising in september. but then the third quarter gdp rose higher than estimated. so how can they both be true, morgan? and does this continue in the coming months? >> it's a great question, and i think the way to explain it, actually, is to start with that gdp number. the reason we saw gdp rise in the third quarter was because businesses are restocking their inventory levels and actually because government spending ticked up by about 9.5%. both of those added to economic growth in the third quarter. both of those are not necessarily sustainable. consumer spending on the other hand makes up about 70% of gross domestic product. we saw that tick down in part because of hurricane sandy in the third quarter. the early numbers for november, despite robust black friday are showing that consumers are s

rang out in honor of those killed a week ago when a gunman burst into sandy hook elementary school. 20 children and six adults died at the school. the gunman also killed his mother and himself. governors in at least 29 states called for a moment of silence in honor of the victims. now the white house says president obama took part privately. also in newtown today, three more victims of the massacre are being laid to rest. yesterday funerals were held for three 6-year-olds and two teachers. it is a heartbreaking scene that has played out over and over again this week. the mother of the gunman adam lanza has also been laid to rest. a friend says nancy lanza was buried yesterday at an undisclosed location. >>> the gun control debate intensifying one week after that horror in newtown, connecticut, the killing of innocent children. just moments ago we heard from the national rifle association, executive director wayne lapierre called for putting armed police in every school. he also blamed the media, violent video games and a lack of prosecutions of violent crimina criminals. more gun laws
